Oystercatchers
Oystercatchers
The American oystercatcher is beautiful and interesting year-round resident in the estuaries of northeast Florida. A low tide the birds spread out to hunt by themselves for oysters exposed by the receding water, and is is rare to see more than one in the same place. At high tide they will congregate on sandbars above the tide to rest and wait for the next low tide. Each Spring pairs will choose one of these high bars to nest and raise their young. The birds are monogamous and pair bond can last for many years.
